It can be a challenge to look after someone who suffers from arthritis. The challenge is to balance between giving the person the right support and motivation and giving them the independence that they want and are capable of.
The hardest part is knowing when to give your support and when stand back and allow them to be independent.
It is a good idea to actually learn about arthritis and understand what it does to the body. This may give you a better understanding of what a person is capable of with arthritis.
Be sure to communicate with the person you are caring for although with some people this can be a touchy subject so be sure to approach the conversation with care.
There are a lot of things that can help people with arthritis whilst still giving them independence such as exercise, therapies and tools such as the Magic Opener which helps to open all types of bottles including cans.
Be sure to support the person by helping them apply with any benefits or advice they may be entitled to.
