DFID Policy project: Small-scale research

Children at school, Rwanda

As part of the Policy Project four research projects were commissioned by the Policy Oficer.

The first three of these were carried out by disabled researchers in the South and the fourth involved disabled people in every aspect of the work.

The projects looked at different aspects of disability and policy and examined the strengths and weaknesses of policies, legislation, systems of participation, and NGO capacity building in a number of countries, which included South Africa, Mozambique, Uganda and Cambodia.

The four projects were:

1. Capacity building of disabled people's organisations in Mozambique, Jabulani M Ncube

2. The role and effectiveness of disability legislation in South Africa, AK Dube

3. Participation of disabled people in the PRSP/PEAP process in Uganda, AK Dube

4. Developing participatory rural appraisal approaches with disabled people in Cambodia, Steve Harknett
