Resources - Partner newsletters

newsletter front covers

Healthlink Worldwide has been involved in the production of newsletters from its start, covering a range of international health and disability issues. In recent times much of the production and dissemination has moved to the regions directly involved with the issues.

Healthlink continues to support organisations with communication and information provision; often research and materials from Healthlink's projects are adapted for local audiences and included in editions of newsletters.

See below for regional newsletters that are available and for details of our partners who continue to produce them:

1. Health Alert | 2. AIDS Action | 3. Child Health Dialogue | 4. Dialogue on Diarrhoea | 5. Disability Dialogue | 6. Health Action

1. Health Alert

Archive of Health Alert

Health alert front coversIn 2002 Health Action Information Network (HAIN), with support from Healthlink Worldwide, re-started the production of Health Alert. This followed a decision to cease production of the Asia Pacific region newsletter ‘AIDS Action’ after almost 10 years of collaboration with us.

HAIN work on a wide variety of health and advocacy issues and Health Alert allows HAIN to disseminate information on more than just HIV and AIDS.

Health Alert is used to support advocacy, training and research, and is aimed at health workers, researchers, policy makers and programme managers.

Each quarterly edition focuses on a specific health or disability issue. Recent issues have included, women girls and HIV and AIDS in Asia, tuberculosis, advocacy, and disability and development. All editions of Health Alert are available on the HAIN website at: www.hain.org

4. Dialogue on Diarrhoea

Archive of Dialogue on Diarrhoea

Dialogue on Diarrhoea front coverThis newsletter was an international newsletter on the control of diarrhoeal disease. Published four times a year it acted as a forum for readers to exchange ideas and share experiences, as well as offering practical advice.

In addition to information on clinical management, the newsletter addressed issues which affected health workers' and families' abilities for care for children, such as communication skills, organisation of health centres and hospitals, health education and training.

The newsletter covered the latest developments, new ideas and solutions to problems, and the establishment of new national and local programmes in diarrhoeal diseases control in developing countries. It focused on promoting the exchange of practical information and experience related to the effective prevention and treatment of diarrhoea.

Production of the newsletter ceased in May 1995 after 15 years and a total of 60 issues. The newsletter was relaunched as Child Health Dialogue to cover a broader range of issues. An archive of Dialogue on Diarrhoea is available on the Rehydrate website www.rehydrate.org

6. Health Action

Archive of Health Action

Health Action front coversThis newsletter provided a forum for health managers, planners and health workers to exchange experiences and ideas in implementing programmes in primary health care and related fields. It also provided practical advice for field-workers.

Later issues included discussions and practical advice on tuberculosis control and preventative therapy for community workers, and the challenges of preventing and treating malaria in different cultures. An edition on transport examined issues such as using bicycles and motorbikes and how to conduct a transport needs assessment. Often lack of suitable transport prevents treatment from being sought and referrals being followed up. One edition looked at the challenges of communication and technology in primary health care, and the benefits of working in partnership.

Resource lists were included with each edition, including useful organisations, printed publications, websites and CD-ROMS on specific themes and topics.

The last edition of Health Action was produced by Healthlink Worldwide in August 2000. The final four editions of Health Action are available to download as PDF files.
